A Fine Line :: Quilts by Cindy Heath | Paintings and Illustrations by William Tulp
September 2, 2016, 5:00pm - September 2, 2016, 7:00pm
On Friday, September 2 from 5-7pm the Gallery at WREN presents the opening reception of A FINE LINE, featuring art quilts made by Cindy Heath, and paintings and illustrations by William Tulp. As the name of the show suggests, the works celebrate the variations and complexities of the line, as explored in thread, ink and paint. Each artist uses lines very differently, according to the characteristics of their respective genres. Colorful, heavily quilted collages in fabric juxtapose densely layered black and white drawings, creating a vibrant and lively environment in the Gallery, and a feast for the eyes.
Cindy Heath learned to create and sew from her mother, making embroidery pieces and crazy quilts from worn out clothing scraps. Her work as a fiber artist has evolved over many decades of hand and machine sewing, teaching art and quilting to children and adults, and studying with internationally known art quilt master teachers including Sue Benner, Katie Pasquini Masopust, and Jane Dunnewold. She maintains active membership in the Surface Design Association and Studio Art Quilt Associates, and her work is currently also exhibited at Long River Gallery & Gifts, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, and Northern Stage Gallery.
Bill Tulp earned a BFA from East Carolina University with a major in painting and a minor in printmaking. He has exhibited at Catamount Arts, and Springfield College. He has also had pieces in group exhibitions at Catamount, The Gallery at WREN, Lyndon State College and in shows in New York, Illinois and North Carolina. Tulp is a certified art teacher in New Hampshire, and has taught art at Monroe School and at the Becket Schools, and as an adjunct in visual arts at Lyndon State College.
